M6 F06/F12/F13: history, design and engineering

How this generation came about, what made it different and how the selected gran coupe fits into the family.

The third M6 generation expanded to three bodies: F13 Coupé, F12 Convertible and F06 Gran Coupé. All used an S63 twin-turbo V8, seven-speed M DCT and rear-wheel drive, but body structure, wheelbase, seating, luggage space and mass differ substantially.

The Competition Package evolved from an initial power increase to a later 600 PS specification with revised chassis calibration. Each phase needs dates and markets; the Gran Coupé's four-door layout does not make it an M5 and its longer wheelbase remains an M6 body record.

M6 GT3 used the road engine as a basis but is a competition car with separate weight, aerodynamics and output regulations. Regional Final Edition or cosmetic packages should not overwrite the underlying standard or Competition technical row.
