How this generation came about, what made it different and how the selected cabriolet fits into the family.
F82/F83 created the M4 name for the coupé and convertible successors to the E9x M3 two-door cars. Both use the S55 twin-turbo inline-six and share the F80 engineering family, but the F83 retractable hardtop has different structure, roof mechanism, luggage capacity and mass.
The range grew from standard cars to Competition and highly distinct limited derivatives: GTS with water injection, DTM Champion Edition, CS and edition packages. GTS and CS require their own output, aerodynamics, suspension and production records; cosmetic editions should inherit the correct underlying mechanical row.
Manual and M DCT availability, rated output and equipment vary by market. The M4 GT4 and GT3 are racing cars, while the M4 GTS road car is a homologated production derivative; the catalog must make that boundary visible.
