How this generation came about, what made it different and how the selected sedan fits into the family.

E32 luxury ALPINA models used B11 and B12 names rather than the later B7 badge. B11 derivatives were based on six- and eight-cylinder 7 Series cars, while B12 5.0 used the V12; each has a separate ALPINA engine type and production period.

Standard and long-wheelbase bodies were available only in defined combinations. Wheelbase, base BMW model, engine and production totals must remain linked, especially because B12 and long-wheelbase cars are very low volume.

The B7 Turbo name belongs to earlier E12/E24-based products and must not push the E32 start date back to 1978. Catalog navigation may group the lineage, but the displayed period badge must be B11 or B12.
