E60/E61 introduced the B5 badge to ALPINA's 5 Series line and used a mechanically driven centrifugal supercharger on a V8 rather than the contemporary M5's V10. B5 and later B5 S had different output, torque and chassis specification.
Sedan and Touring were series bodies, with the estate carrying distinct performance, mass and luggage values. Switch-Tronic calibration and ALPINA's engine type distinguish the car from a converted BMW 550i.
The supercharger is central to the generation's identity and must not be described as turbocharging. B5 S values and production dates require their own rows, while M5 E60/E61 data remain entirely separate.
